What Happened?

Another neat feature of this newest rendition of the forum is the "subscriptions" feature. You can keep an eye out for certain threads, independent of the "Newest posts" button.

One neat aspect of this is you can create a folder of good discussion threads for topics. I think they should stay in the folder regardless of activity.

So, for those of us who reference other threads on a regular basis, some of the key 250 and 210.52 discussions can be saved and quickly found without searching.

What happened to the "EDIT" button?

Hmmmm...

My last post (spellcheck) didn't have the edit button....now I post this ?, and there is the edit button!
Is "Edit" on a timer?

Can someone tell me how to reply with quote and have entire post show up? I posted, someone replied with quote, for which I wanted to reply with both my original post and their reply showing. When I hit "quote", only their words showed in my post, not my original post.

I did read this entire thread, but must have missed something.

After hitting the "QUOTE" BUTTON
quote.gif
....a window opens containing the original post within the tags [.quote] xxxx [./quote]

If you don't want to use the entire quoted portion, just backspace them out.

Now you have "edited" the quoted portion.
After the closing tag ([./quote]) , you are free to type your own words.

I will usually hit the "Preview Post" button to make sure my words haven't mingled with the quoted portion.

This forum uses a standard format for adding items to posts:
quote ~ [.quote] text [./quote]
picture ~ [.img] img [./img] (*Note: Must be an image: jpg, gif, etc)
bold ~ [.b] text [./b]
..and so on.

The "dot" I have inserted between the brackets and tags to allow you see the actual format.

If I haven't answered the ?'s suffieciently...ask MORE questions :)...just don't ask about spellcheck - it's not enabled for Netscape.

The old format did that, but this forum only shows one level of quoting.

I wonder if you can do it manually? Let me try.

I will quote myself twice.

Did it work? Why yes it did!

Hopefully they can adjust that. Sometimes things are a bit clearer when you can post a few quotes deep.

In the meantime, John, it comes down to:
 • clicking and dragging over someone's post before you hit the reply or quote button
 • Paste it into your post
 • Keep straight in your head who said what
 • manually put the [.quote.][./quote] brackets in.
Yuck. :D

Why has the avatar feature been disabled for us that did not have one before the new format?

Can it be reenabled so we can add our avatars???

I find it usefull to right-click on the "reply" or "quote" button, and then choose the "Open Link in New Window" option from the drop down menu that appears. that way, I will still have the thread open in the original window. I can switch back and forth between windows while I'm composing my reply in case I loose track of who said what, or if I need to cut and paste additional quotes.

OK,

I still don't get it. Bear with me while I try a few things. Thanks,

John

So my last post just cpoied and pasted eprices post. Where would I put the [.quote] and [/.quote] in? And do I need to type in who made the post(s)?

[.quote=j_erickson]This is the original post that had the first idea.
Why, that idea is total nonsense!
Go pound sand, you potato-lover!

Ignore the periods in the brackets, that's to get it visible.

That looks like this:

Don't touch a button - right this second, click and drag on the quoted post immediately above this sentence. Go up to the edit menu, select "Copy".

Hit the "Post Reply" button.

Select "Paste" from the edit menu.

Now, type in
[.quote] and
in the appropriate spots.

If it isn't clear, I'll draw a jpg picture to make it clearer. :)
