Hello,

I acquired a roll of wire from an estate sale, thinking it was eithernet wire.It has 10 wires, and are thicker than cat 5, and won't fit in a rj45 connector. It has a gel coating, and foil sheathing, but the wires are not twisted,,any help on what kind of wire this is, or would be used for
,would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Why can't I post pics?

We will allow this thread since it is not asking a "how to" question.

Sounds like it is just some shielded control wire. When you say gel coating, do you mean there is a gel underneath the outer jacket? Is the jacket black? Does it have any printing?

Sounds like direct bury telephone wire, what colors are the wires? If its telephone wire it can only be used outside as the jacket is flammable

If it's gel filled it can only be used outside anyway because the gel is flammable.

Funny how everybody thinks a cable with multiple conductors is "ethernet" cable.

What kind of wire is it? Anything you want it to be except ethernet and used inside, depending on what the conductor size will allow. Maybe direct burial. Too bad you can't post a picture.

Another possibility is residential landscape irrigation control wire.
