A good friend of mine who is an unlicensed electrician wants to do a side job and wants me to stamp his permit for him?

I believe, once you stamp it you own it. If anything happens, they will come after me.

The reality of this is that you can't pull a permit for someone else. You must give your company name and license number on the permit so the permit is in your name.

In truth to attempt to permit for others would be giving false information on an official government document and aiding an unlicensed person to perform a licensed trade.

If you wants to take some real chances you can permit the job in your company name and get a contract signed for your company and collect a check for your company and just let your friend do the work. You can pay his taxes and be responsible for him if he gets hurt or does any damage on the job. He better be one real good friend to merit this kind of favor. I really don't have that kind of friends.

Ever think what could happen to you if this guy went out there and got himself electrocuted while working under your license and not insured. His family could sue you for everything you ever made or will ever make.

Vinniem, I tried this once and didn't feel good about it. The guy went missing for 2 weeks in the middle of the job and the contractor came to my door for the rest of the job. He said that the electrician had been paid in full and half of the work needed to be finished. This was a high end penthouse here in California. And it was gona cost me big time. To make a long story short he came home form where ever he was and finished the job saving me some money and saving him an ass kicking. I wouldn't do it if I were you. Stick to the strait and narrow and you will be better off.

have you ever been in that situation? I believe, once you stamp it you own it. If anything happens, they will come after me. What would you do? Am I being paranoid?

A block from my house is little deli/beverage/bait & tackle store. This guy has converted this place from a old service station, pulled his own permits as owner (some NE Ohio suburbs allow this for sole proprietor). He knows I?m an EC and I?ve busted his chops about taking food from the mouths of my kids. So now he wants to put in 2,000 lb. liquid propane fill sation, city won?t let him pull the permit (this goes through county, state FM and local FD). He asks to ?borrow? my license for a couple hundred bucks, I tell him I wouldn?t do it for an exit sign much less for Haz. location, explosion proof, no one will touch this with 10 foot pole.
He found someone who would !
I plan to stick my nose into this at some point, right now this about half done and the owner is having contract (not safety) issues with propane distributor.
