Employees screwing up is just a cost of being in business.

Reward those employees who dont screw up over the long term.

I agree completely. And for every screw up there was likely many times that the good employee did something that saved money. I really doubt when that same employee came up with a great idea that the boss reached into his pocket and handed him a $100 bill.

I'd go to the boss, tell him what I did, then tell him I'd like to go fix it (I feel an obligation) without pay (as long as I'd still be under his insurance). Then the ball is in the boss's court.

Or if I'm still working at that job site, I might use my lunch break to go fix my mistake.

Ethically I think it's right. But I think that you have to make that offer, not the boss make you do it.

Just reading through this and was wondering on this if a person pulls in yellow wire for a 120/208 system for a neutral and he knew it was not right but did not want to get a white #12 who is responsible then for that, and should he be paid to correct that ?

If he knowlingly pulled in the wrong color, he won't get paid by me to fix it.

The guy that gets his job will be paid by me to fix it.

I think you should get paid if you're on the clock doing work for the company. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. On the other hand, I recall one time where I did a bonehead move and I went back after work to fix it so no one would know.
