what year: grounds and neutrals on seperate bars in sub panels?

Odd. Most houses (I'd guess 90%) I inspect in NC built in the 60's and prior have a three wire (or two, if you'd like) feed (two hots and a neutral) from the main panel to the sub panel. No ground wire and only one buss bar for both neutrals and grounds.
 
1968 contained a new article, 384-27. It is now 408.20.

I have compiled a database of certain Code references and what numbers they were in previous NEC editions. If you can view Excel files, you can download a copy of it here.

I also see many subpanels with neutral and ground on same bar, enforcement is the difference, until late 90's we did not have county inspections, some think that rules changed in cases where rule hadn't changed, enforcement changed.
