Where can I find some preprinted contracts

Hello this forum is facinating!!!! I'm one-horse shop, and generally make more $$$ working for myself (with more discretionary time for family... etc) than working for large shops. I've worked successfully with word of mouth and firm handshake deals, but after reading all of your horror stories, I think I need some standard "fill in the blank" contracts for GC's and HO's in my gesstimating book. Where could I down load some??? In addition all my buddies and their pals want me to pull permits and "finnish jobs that require permits". I generally like to help person out, But I would like some sort of
paper signed by the HO that releases me of the liability of work done by others. It allways seems after they get green sticker that I never hear from them unless it it a problem that I'm supposed to fix.

If you search the forum you will find some contracts others have posted. But you really need to sit down with a construction lawyer. They have the knowledge and experience to come up with a contract that best suits your needs for your state and area.
As far as pulling permits for others in my state its a big no-no. Its called selling your license. This is where it's going to hurt. You are a dumb a** to pull permits in your name and let others do the work. It's your name on the permit. I can see no signed paper disallowing you from the liability if things go bad on a job you permitted and someone else did. If you had a homeowner sign such a paper all you have done is admitted that you have sold your license. Don't become a license whore!

It wouldn't matter that your buddies and friends 'sign a paper' releasing you from liability..... if they burn their house down, the insurance companies could care less what kind of deal you had struck.

A permit does not only mean you are having the work inspected, nor does it mean solely mean you are following the permit laws of your area. A permit is also a legal declaration to the public that you are doing the work. Your name is on the permit, and you are the one who is legally liable down the road if something happens.

As ceb58 said, make sure that whatever you use is reviewed by a local attorney familiar with the laws of your jurisdiction and make sure that you understand them too.
There may be specific time frames and procedures for filing liens, etc. that may be important for you to know.
Not knowing how the laws work in your area could lead to you losing all of your rights.

That is so true, I see so many start-up's use standard forms, and skip getting legal advice, they would rather save the money now, and pay the whole farm later.
