Are your inspectors having you attach to a piece of rebar that is bent out from the form boards.Or
are they having you attach to the rebar within the footer....
We went the bent way and what a pain.Started to attach to rebar within the footer and bury the coil from the Cu mongers and what a breeze ;)

in this area, bend the rebar out for future attachment.

We went that route for about a year and a half.WHAT A PAIN.....We now attach to rebar within the footer area slab insp signs it off ;)
Guess different areas want different things.

Is the rebar inspected prior to the pour to see if it complies with the requirements?

In my area, we mostly see a wire attached to the rebar in the footing, then routed up through the foundation and coiled to run to the service. Here I as an inspector, inspect all aspects of the building, so when I do a footing inspection I will check the CEE.

Question what do you do if the Cu mongers got the coil here we sink 2 ground rods like before ;)

Doesn`t 05 code say that no concrete will be removed to attach a uffer.I don`t have a copy to reference????

250.50 exception-Concrete encased electrode of existing buildings or structures shaal not be required to be part of the grounding electrode system where the steel reinforcing bars or rods are not accessible for use without disturbing the concrete

The exception applies to existing buildings only, not foundations poured yesterday. :p

Here in MA under the 2005 NEC I would say we would have to break into the footing and put on a new one.

I have left a lot of 4 AWG to 4/0 bare copper sticking out of footings and the only trouble I can remember is them being damaged by other trades.

Washington State does not require a connection to a concrete encased electrode where the footing is alread poured on new construction, and the electrical is being done later, even if "new".

So what do you do sink ground rods ????????? Our slab guys all know the Cu has to be their.Actually the slab insp. will not sign a slab insp. off unless there he checks it not the EI.Now thats here up there in snow country BBBBBBRRRRRRR I can simpathize.Get back in the truck ,Get back in the truck.........
