I just think that the compression connector, when installed with the correct tools, is a much more secure connection. I have cut through compression connectors and it is very difficult to tell if the condutor was stranded or not. There is more contact area with the compression connectors as the pressure is all the way around the conductor. With a mechanical connection, in most case you do not have solid contact pressure over more than 50% of the outside surface of the conductor. Note, this comment is based on the use of a hydraulic crimper on conductors larger than #6.
