An architect asked me if can install 15' whips of FMC, concealed within walls and would have access thorugh access panels, for future use? Ive looked thorugh the code and coudl not find anything aganist this but to to me this doenl;t sounds slike a good idea.

Can anyone site a Chapter and verse from the NEC that deals with this issue. Doesn't matter which edition, I'll cross reference.

Thanks

There is nothing in the NEC that would prohibit it. Haven't you ever run spare conduits for future use ? Same concept.

Put a little duct tape on the end, or if they are paying for it - use a 1900 box, to keep out any unwanted guests out.

yes, but they want the condcutors installed as well. Leaving energized condcutors behind a wall not termiating to any equipment doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Well, that's a little different than an empty run :D, now isn't it?

As long as the box (duct tape option just flew south for the winter) is accessible, there is noting to prevent it in the NEC.

I would encourage the powers-that-be to NOT connect the wires to live circuits until this "extra" is to be utilized...the circuit will only have to be de-energized to install the future equipment.

I would gladly do this for the customer but it would be one of two ways.

The flex would be left in the wall with the conductors and the conductors would be left capped and marked in the panel.

OR

The flex would terminate in an accessible box in the wall with the wires capped, in this case I would feel fine landing them on breakers.

There is no way I would land the conductors on the breakers with the flex hanging in the wall.

You did say there is an access panel. Use a box. wire nut off the conductors. put a cover on the box.

It's an accessable junction box that doesn't feed anything. Would it be any safer if it did feed something.

( Have this installed by an electrician ).

Bob and Celtic... answered the revised OP's question

When did it get "revised"?

I didn't see the edited comment below (part of forum software)?

Celtic..picky, picky. I was thinking of a different post. I had three in my head plus a report I was filling out. But thank you for correcting me any way. But the OP did add Hot wires in the wall after the fact.....Did they Not ?
