So I saw some temporary cord drops in a big box store today.. the type with a flexible cord, strain relief and a metal box on the end. the boxes appeared to be 2-1/8" drawn but what caught my eye was that they had very few knockouts on them. I don't think one of the sides even had any and one side had just a single knockout. who makes these?

Appleton makes this box:

Yup! I'm sure other mfg's make similiar boxes like Appleton's. When I did temp lighting/power for outdoor events (raves & clubs) we found that 4 S boxes wouldn't hold up. So we used a version of that Appleton. There made of the malleable iron and really tough. Although there ain't much room for makeup. They are code in some jurisdictions for long duration temp use and stage/film/concert power breakouts. Last time I saw them was at a Cirque Du Soleil show!

maybe I should have been more specific... it was definitely a 4" square box (steel) and I haven't seen it in the Raco or Steel City catalogs.
