Anybody here install and sell a lot of whole house surge protection? I've read lots of good reviews of the Cutler Hammer and looking to upsell this to my customers. Also do you install both the electrical and the cable units? And one last question what are you charging for this? This would take less then an hour to install I'm thinking $299

$429 and make it take at least an hour tork all the screws in the panel and clean it up they will think it is worth the money...

Where do you mount it?

Where do you mount it?

Where would you mount it? It looks like it's intended to be surface mounted on a wall?
How will you connect it?

I installed some a few years ago that were made by a company in Florida. I think their name is Ditek. They seemed to work pretty well - no callbacks & it's been several years now. They mounted in a panel KO.

What is the UL 1449 voltage clamping rating on the CH unit? The best clamping voltage that I've heard of is 330 volts.

It is mounted to the panel the same way the transformer for a doorbell mounts to the panel. It has green, white, black, and red leads. The green and white are obviously landed on the ground/neutral bars. The black and red lands on a 2-pole 15A breaker.

I didn't know either from the picture but I googled it and found a "review" on the subject.

See if you can get lightning strike data for your area, news station, poco, then pin point the areas.

I put one in a new service after a surge from the POCO* burnt a $450,000 log home to the ground. I don't know what the EC charged extra, but it only took me about 10 minutes to put the device in.

*This is from the POCO after an investigation. It seems that wind blew a couple of lines into each other that had ratty insulation. The transformer saturated and when the lines came apart, it sent a surge into the home. There was a nightlight plugged into a receptacle and the surge turned the light into a small fire, which then caught some curtains on fire and proceeded to destroy the home.

I don't know if I would hard sell these or not. What happens if one fails and burns a half a million dollar home to the ground and you were the one recommending it?

In my case, the HO wanted the device and we supplied it for him. Hephaestus should probably be credited for the sale.
