I'm not sure whether or not this should be a new thread, so if you (Mod's) wish, feel free to alter accordingly. Not that you need my approval, of course!

Does anyone else see the wording in 422.51 to be slightly misleading?

The original proposal (shown in post 19) states that the GFCI shall be an integral part of the attachment plug or be located in the power supply cord within 12" of the attachment plug.

NEC 2008 422.51 "...shall include
a ground-fault circuit interrupter as an integral part of
the attachment plug or be located within 300 mm (12 in.) of
the attachment plug."

I realize that this is nitpicking, but without stating "in the power supply cord", this leaves open the possibility that a GFCI could be installed that is not "in the cord", like a 12" GFCI cord. As long as it is within 12" of the attachment plug. I can't imagine that this is the intent.

Without the "in the... cord" statement, the sentence doesn't specify which side of the attachment plug.

I just looked at the ROP 2011 and there is no suggested "fix" for this. There is only 2 "place the definitions in 422.2, or in 100", and one rejected add a hyphen.
