Doubt squirrels or other rats know the difference in the metals, but prefer insulation types over each other - and since the AL may be running a little hotter than CU, 'Hot food - hot' as the wife says....

On a serious note....if you have lead flashing around the vent pipes of your home, check them. Nothing like roof damage because of missing lead. Squirrels like lead better than aluminum....it must be the sweet taste (hey the Romans ate the the stuff)

Yes, it's true, lead acetate is called "sugar of lead" because it's sweet. And soluble in alcohol, so it has been used to adulterate wine and food.

If you can't arrange a time for the squirrels to meet their maker, you have the anti-freeze option. I had two pack rats raise heck with a camp that I could not catch. After a couple of weeks of fighting, I went to option "B" That is, bought some el cheapo- plastic cups. Broke them down to about an inch tall. Poured anti-freeze in the bottoms, put them in the cabinets (so that other animals would not be exposed to the danger). Both were dead in a week, found one, not the other.

Prefer shooting rather than poisoning. Poison as a last ditch method.

ants love wire too?
