Why the need for 18 inches?

Why does the exception to Code Rule 312.5 (C) Cables require the nonflexible raceway to be not less than 18 inches?

These two thread went into detail and I believed there was good documentation on the 18" be required to contain sparks etc.

The only reason is UL will only list it as flexable 18" or more...ect for longer distances:grin:
