Window frame as a raceway?

I made mention of MC being installed in wet locations. The link I provided was not the standard interlocking type of MC that most are familar with installed for inside wiring. I just went through one manufacturer's site and read what I could about the location for installation of the different types of MC they produce.

It would seem that the type I provided a link for is for wet locations, and the interlocked type may not be, as I do not see any definite language for that type to be installed in wet locations. This is not to say it is the final answer, but I would as an inspector like to see something in writing that identifies standard interlocking MC as suitable for wet locations...the same wording as for the Parking Deck MC posted earlier.

That language is found in 330.10(A)(12) (in the '02). MC cable can be used in wet locations where it has a metal jacket which is impervious to moisture, OR a lead sheath or moisture impervious jacket is provided under the metal covering, OR the insulated conductors are listed for use in wet locations. If the MC mets ANY of those conditions, it can be used in wet locations. This tells me that the smooth or corrugated MC, jacketed MC, or interlocking metal tape type with type "W" conductors all would be suitable in wet locations. In addition, the UL White Book lists the fittings as suitable for dry or wet locations unless marked "Dry Locations".

As I said, I see this type of installation from time to time. It wouldn't be my choice of methods, but the Code allows it, so I pass it.

Maurie and I agree. As for my previous post. My only concern and TOPIC, was the DRY ONLY stamped connector, not the MC, if one of the following were met 330.10(A)

UF in most areas would not fly because of subject to damage.Weed wackers and UF nor a good mix.

Jim would you feel better if I say UF might be able to be used?

Obviously support and protection from damage issues would need to be addressed.

That said I doubt your typical LFMC installation is truly code compliant.

Is it supported near each fitting and is it arranged to drain as is required of outdoor raceways?

So let me ask this then. Since we have 330.10(A)(11)C, can you fish a piece of mc through pvc that is under a slab? (Lets just answer this and not get into why not just pull thhn or set a box..etc....)

In my opinion yes.
