Hello,
I am hoping you folks can help me with a stupid question.
I paid my builder to put in a 220v run for an outdoor hot tub. The hot tub in question runs at 50A.
The builder appears to have used several pieces of #8 aluminum wire. At 2 different points along the run, the wire goes into a junction box where it connects with the next piece via what looks to be a standard wire cap. I would assume whoever did the work did not have a long enough piece of wire to do the entire run.
I have heard that because aluminum expands at times, it is generally not advisable to use wire caps. If anyone could shed some light on the validity of that statement I would greatly appreciate it. Does this sound kosher for code purposes?
Thanks!
