wire sizing

I AM TRYING TO SIZE SERVICE CONDUCTORS FOR A 200 TO 400 AMP PANEL 1500 FT. IN DISTANCE.I HAVE NOT HAD TO USE THESE CALC'S SINCE SCHOOL 3 YEARS AGO WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP AND GIVE ME THE CODE SEC. AND STEPS SO I CAN RE-FRESH MY MEMORY?
WE ARE IN THE 1999 NEC.THIS PANEL IS FOR A IRRIGATION PIVOT.

More info is needed.

1)Voltage

2)Load Amps (not necessarily panel amps)

3)Length

4)The percentage of voltage drop you are willing to live with.

5)Copper or Aluminum

As an example

A 400 amp load 1500 feet allowing 5% voltage drop.

At 480 volts this would need one 750 kcmil copper.

At 208 volts this would need two 750 kcmil copper.

The code does not address voltage drop.

All the code will tell you is the ampacitys of the conductors in 310.16

I do my figures with a PC program others here can tell you how to do it manually.
