Re: Wire staples

Read article 334 which covers NM, and 300 (more specifically 300.4) which has some relevant fastening issues as well.

Re: Wire staples

Did the math on 300.4a 1
dam that makes using a 1 inch hole hog almost impossible or use a lot of nail plates.
When is the last time anyone measured to find dead center of a 2x4 ?

Re: Wire staples

Better off with a 3/4" hole as you can be off center up to a 1/4" and still meet 300.4(A)(1).

This works fine if you are trying not to make bundles.

I do mostly MC jobs and the inspectors expect to see the 1 1/4" spacing which means if more than one cable is running down a stud they expect cable stacker's like this.

Re: Wire staples

Jim I tell our guys to drill off center and nail plate just one side of the stud it is almost impossible to center a hole with a 1 in auger and be code compliant,Now take NM running thru stackers on a block wall base board and the furring is 1/2 in from the base to comply with 300.4 d you either use mmmmm 3 nail plates at the furring or cut each one off to give clearance.Guess thats why we use ALLOT of kick plates.2,000 - 2750 homes year 1 box of nail plates for each home x $ wow I could have gone on a cruise lol.No cruise but we passed our inspections lol

Re: Wire staples

Allen i usually get cooperation on that from the carpenters when you explain the problem. Not sure what is cheaper cut the strips or nail plates!!
Have never been called on the hole issue.Think i will start using 3/4 augar.Never been called on this bundling issue between studs either. But can comply if needed.
