Wireless switches

An X 10 Module in every fixture and you can do everything from one controller or he can carry a key fob with him to turn lights on off, we use a lot of X10 with good results.

Another Option?

Another Option?

I wonder where you could put the occupancy sensor with the open area above the stalls as you describe. I picture the sensor picking up movement from outside the stall.

I have used Lutron wireless switches in a residential application. If you could mount the receiver switch by the fixture, then you could mount the wireless switch by the stall. You would need to consider a dust tight installation. You would accomplish the same thing without all the wiring.

But you still have the battery thing and depending on someone to turn it off. Not exactly the worry free answer that you're looking for.

I could mount it at the fixture.

Leviton has one that mounts directly to a 1/2" KO for about 50 bucks. But they spec for mounting heights of 20-40 feet. I don't know if the 10-12 foot height would have an adverse effect.

I also don't know if there would be a problem with the light turning off if the horse is relatively motionless like when it is asleep.

I assume that the field of vision could be shielded.

With all the other wild ideas, I might as well throw the old standby into the mix:
