I ruled that out immediately purely because this is 2008 and not 1908.

It seems some members have pointed me to at least two that will suit. Thanks!

That is an arrogant and obnoxious statement but somehow that doesn't surprise me.

Wasn't meant to be, but seriously... when's the last time you thought of a split bolt as being the best solution for a splicing need?

Sounds to me like very little thought went into this statement. The owner and I jab each other over this kind of thing but I make him and myself good money. Bottom line black.

There was not a lot of thought needed.

$400 vs $16 is a no brainier to me, wire nuts have a long and successful track record.

IMO The only reason to push for the Polaris is just to say your better then those that don't.

Unbelievable. I love Polaris for many applications and want more people to consider that option.

I love my wife. I love my kids. I draw the line at love for electrical materials. Gets a little Brokeback Mountain at that point.

Well following the thread is not always my way SKIPPING is more like it. BUT I will say I have not used a split bolt in 25 years. Polaris, and a few other styles connectors have replaced the split bolt.

From a guy that can't find a wire nut in his briefcase, what other styles of connectors would you recommend?

The Ideal List has under 454 / 600V:
1 #6 w/1 to 4 #14
1 #6 w/1 to 5 #12
1 #6 w/1 to 3 #10
Hey! I know how to save money on home-runs now! ;)

(Interesting that it's listed for more #12's than #14's.)

OTHER ALTERNATIVE NOT MENTIONED IF A BLUE WOULDN'T MEET APPLICATION, SPLICE #14 TO #12 WITH TAN, (2) #6 & (1) #12 WITH BLUE, I KNOW IT'S ANOTHER CONNECTION TO POTENTIALLY FAIL BUT THE WARRANTY WOULD BE UP BY THEN. I LIKE POLARIS CONNECTORS, BUT THEY ARE EXPENSIVE. SPLIT BOLTS ARE FREQUENTLY STILL USED BY PHONE/CABLE COMPANY TO ATTACH TO GEC A PRACTICAL APPLICATION I SUPPOSE.

sorry i didnt realize i was talking loudly until half way through, i actually consider this LOUD!
thanks for the spelling correction, the people down south will appreciate this:D

If the #12 is solid i would suggest pretwisting and keep them long as possable.Blue nut and tape should do fine. Also if its likely to get wet turn it so water stays out.

I think you'll be just fine using wirenuts as long as you remember to tape em up when youre all done.

As far as making it electrically tight the tape does nothing. If there is any chance of touching bare wire then i am all for it.I almost never tape them.JMO
