wires between framing and basement wall

is it in the code book that you cannot run wires between the framing and the concret wall in a finished basement. the wires were stapled as support every 2ft

As long as the wires are properly supported and not subject to physical damage I see no problem with this.

I agree with the notorious post hijacker, Chris.

Edit to add

I will go so far as to say you can fasten NM to the block wall.

Your fellow workers will kill me if I take the breath mint and being I am not into pocket lint I will let it slide this time. :D

You mean like this?

Unless it's right next to the box, I don't staple the NM directly. I just use scrap sheathing.

Is that sheathing listed for the purpose and how many wires can you legally secure with it????:D

I like that sheathing method. It looks better then bending the wire at every joice to get a staple in it.

I have also used 3/8 one hole straps to fasten it to the concrete.
Never been called on it.

How many cables can I put through a hole in a 2x4, and is it listed for that purpose?

NM only requires strapping every 4.5' so it wouldn't require support at every joist. You could use the jacket method for intermediate support since it wouldn't be required in the first place. I agree it can't be used as a replacement for other methods such as staples, stacker's, etc.

Are 3/8" one hole straps listed for flat NM cables? We always use the special flat NM style straps when strapping to a wall.

The 08 code covers that belive it or not.
Somebody will correct me but I think it's two.

At the same time the 08 code wants us to drill the joices in a crawl space.
No more stapling along the bottom of the joices:D

No their not listed, But don't tell our local ahj's.
I have seen the flat one wholes for big wire.
I've not seen any for 12 or 14,, I will have to look for them.
Probably has the edges more rounded so as not to damage the wire.

Another method for supporting NM cable installed in these areas is to drill a hole in every second or third stud and run the NM cable through those holes.

Seems like just drilling some holes would be faster
