Wireway

Would I be in violation of 110.26 to install a 6x6 metal wireway behind industrial warehouse style open backed shelving? I have about 2' clearance from the front of the wireway to the back of the shelf, and the only obstructions would be pallets put on shelf. The wireway is used for taps from a feeder to disconnects outside the building. I am thinkin that b/c the taps would require no maintenence, servicing, adj.,examination etc.(i.e.110.26 (A) and I have "sufficient" access (i.e. 110.26) that this install would comply. Am I on the right track here?

Re: Wireway

Sounds like you comply with the literal interpretation of the code article, but if I was called out to do an infrared scan of the building, I would want to shoot those taps. Chances are that could be done with 2' of clearance.

Just a thought.

Re: Wireway

110.26 is all about "equipment" that might require work while energized. Looking at the definition of "equipment," I don't think a cable, a tap, or a wireway fit that definition. You might be able to argue that a wireway is similar to a "fitting," but the wireway itself is never energized, so it would not need any maintenance work while it is energized. I think you are OK.
