Wooden light boxes

A friend wants to build wooden light boxes with a lay-in difuser to enclose/hide 8' open flourescent fixtures. Can anyone think of any specific code violation in this method?

What do you mean by an 8' open fixture?

Your basic 8' flourescent fixture with exposed tubes...i-line i think they are sometimes called.

Thanks for responding. I have seen it too, and felt fairly confident. But when someone asked...and I off-handedly said, "It's fine," I began to second guess myself.

My concern would be the fixture is not listed. Should fire or injury occur, the insurance company could reject the claim. Just my thought.

The fixture is listed. The cover is not and why would it need to be. No big deal.
