Yep. My guess is the house was resided, and the siders cut the screws off behind it as well as removed any straps and never replaced them.

Yup, typical siding install. They must all go to the same school of HalfAssedWorkmanship.

Looks to me like the original install came out of the ground way to far from the house to begin with......unless the removed siding was 3 or 4 inches thick.
