Work Space and Stacking

I have a VFD and a line filter with limited space. They are in separate cabinets. Based on the NEC, I have to assign 30"x6' space for each one. I was wondering if NEC let me stack them in 30"x6 space especially since they are related to one motor and the output of the VFD goes to line filter and from the line filter to the motor.

No, you do not have to provide 60" wide for the two units, you must provide a minimum of 30" for each but that can overlap each other.

If you had two 15" wide panels you could place them side by side in one 30" space.
 
Will one of these two pieces of equipment encroach more than 6" on the working space of the other?
 
No. Both of them are less than 2' tall. The dimensions are 10"(W)x28"(D)x28"(H). The line filter is even smaller than this. If NEC allows to stack them, would you please give me the clause number?
 
What about 110.26(A)(3)?

110.26(A)(3) Height of Working Space. The work space shall be
clear and extend from the grade, floor, or platform to a height
of 2.0 m (6 1 ? 2 ft) or the height of the equipment, whichever is
greater. Within the height requirements of this section, other
equipment that is associated with the electrical installation and
is located above or below the electrical equipment shall be
permitted to extend not more than 150 mm (6 in.) beyond the
front of the electrical equipment.

Yes. Very good. Thanks. So I can install it since it is less than 6" deeper than main panel.

Just remember that the space is measured from the front of the equipment so even if one piece is more than 6" deeper than the other you could build out the smaller one from the wall. Something like this disconnect switch.

Interesting photo, I see that you put a bonding jumper on all of your flex connections. I have only seen this a couple of times in my career.

Those bonding jumper were not my work. :eek:hmy:

Regarding the bonding jumpers, they were all the wrong size (too small), installed improperly and not required. I thought of Photoshopping them out before posting this photo again. :D

Definitely a good idea with the disconnect above the transformer. We've all looked for space in a tight closet.
