I was kind of interested to see if we might get some feedback from guys out there on how they are treated and maybe the craftsmanship.

The lighting and buildings look magnificent, and with that kind of money flowing through, I thought there might be some great fringe benefits for an electrician working there.

Maybe it is only the visitors who are treated nice.

Also, what about the quality of the workmanship. The lighting looks amazing, but is it all just held together with duct tape and baling wire? I went to a conference there but they don't let your average visitor go behind the scenes. There has to be pressure put on the worker when there are shows and conference deadlines that must be met.

I know a lot of times folks with money can skirt the rules, and Vegas appears to have no lack of money.

Well I thought lights would be an electrical topic.
I've not been to Vegas since 88.
But I would think the neons just need one connection. Maybe at each letter location. Maybe the neon manufactors keep electricians on staff to install the lights.
It wouldn't be a lot different then some other big cities. Such as Orlando, Atlantic City, etcc.
May be it was the mention of " Fringe Benifits' that got the other thread closed.

I would love to go into the electrical rooms in casinos in Vegas, are there any members on here that do that kind of work? maybe you could share some pics with us.....

As an inspector here in Vegas, there are both good and bad companies doing work (just like everywhere else), so only some of our town is held together with tape and bailing wire

Most of the maintenence work is done in-house by the casinos, via LU 501 Operating Engineers (who cause us fits, with all the violations they install, when we reinspect the properties each year). I don't know what the pay is but it is not as good as construction work, however the casino workers have a steady paycheck. Aside to that there is not as much money as everyone thinks. Tourism is DOWN BIG and 4 major construction projects have completely shut down, or gone to a skeleton crew (Echalon, Fountainebleu, Palazzo Tower and Caesers Tower), which has put thousands out of work.

For ultramegabob, I'll see what I have in my pics, if not, I'll try to get a few from inside the casinos for you :D

The absolutely fastest way to get this thread closed down would be to bring union vs non-union issues into it.

Why are you telling me! I can care less! I said "figures", because it's much similar to homeowners doing their own electrical work without a permit (open door to cut corners)<<<<in this case it doesn't matter if it's union or non-union.

Why are you telling me! I can care less!

Because it sounded to me you where taking a shot at the union.

You lost me, do you know for a fact that these in house guys are not meeting the laws of where they work?

In many areas HOs can do their own work without permits.

Iwire asked: do you know for a fact that these in house guys are not meeting the laws of where they work?
I'm basing my facts on what Kevin said:
Kevin said :who cause us fits, with all the violations they install, when we reinspect the properties each year).

I'm speaking on my area, and on work that will require an electrical permit.

This tread has nothing to do with electrical, yet it's still open. Personally, I see nothing wrong with getting off the topic of electrical every now an then!

I didn't read it as a union shot... It sounds like from this post a lot of in-house maintenance seems to lead to violations in that area.

I don't see any union vs non union arguement.

Hey I know that was directed at resistance but that's for that link. I never knew about that site. Are alot of guys here on there as well?
I am. I only spend minimal amounts of time there because I'm a bit of a prude and don't care for the language and non-professional talk that goes on at times.

Like Iwire said, Mike's is the professional office and e-talk is the break room (some have said more like the bar after work).
