We have an enclosed 480 V. MCC installed in a building with exposed live parts on one side (MCC bus)and grounded parts on the other (mech. piping). Conditions 1, 2 & 3 all read Exposed live parts. We have one inspector saying the measurement for 110-26(A)(1) is taken from the live bus (in MCC)to the grounded surface. The other says the measurement is taken from the face of the MCC (bucket door) to the grounded surface. Now I am confused.

?The Other? is right. You have live parts that are exposed (i.e., capable of being touched without first opening a door) and that are enclosed (i.e., within the MCC walls). The measurement is taken from the opening.

If the live parts are exposed then the measurement is from the live parts, if the live parts are in an enclosure, the the measurement is from the front of the enclosure. See the last part of 110.26(A)(1).
