Worn out breakers

Tripping to light or no load is one thing and mostly nuisance. The ones I have concern with and have seen is ones that do not trip even on dead short. Had HVAC or other contractor that can't seem to figure out the right breaker and intentionally short it and it never trips. Eventually line turns off because the wiring burnt out. Had another that was dead short and resulted in burning Flames and it never trip a breaker, they finally chased and turned off main but it eventually had 30ft of burnt Romex. None of these were FPE or other "suspect" brands just old 40-50yrs.

One of the ECs I worked for had ropers for housing. He finally sent me over because a breaker kept tripping. It didn't for me. A good 60 amps on a 15. I don't know how many times they tried it. Before marking switch legs was required.
