I have been asked to run a line for a Hot Tub on a deck. The underside of the deck is inaccessible so my plan is to run conduit along the side of the house, across the step, on the ground in the corner, and up and into the back of the panel.

Other thoughts welcomed

I don't like the idea of running a pipe in front of the step as you could get blamed for a trip hazard. Between the step and house a 90 would hang out a bit. It would also need to be RMC if it sits on the ground and would say it's subject to abuse in front of the step.

If it was a deck many times you can fish sealtite under it. But that looks like a slab.

I would look at other routes. Maybe bury it in a path around the outside of the patio. No other options I would go along the house around the steps and always in pipe cause that's how we like it.

CHeck with your AHJ as to his feeling of whether it will be subject to phsical damage. I have called for a meeting on a few occasions to get his/her feel for what I wanted, or what would be acceptable. Personally, it looks like there is enough of a lip coming off that step that a rigid conduit would not be affected (an LL or LR can keep you tight in the corner, but I don't know off the top of my head if that is an acceptable location for a condulet). You have weather/puddling issues as to how well a metal conduit would hold up over time, if that is an issue, will NMRC hold up to traffic over time, etc.? I think your install idea is a good start, but "subject to physical damage" can be very subjective.

Does this look better to anyone? I know more conduit and wire but fewer questionable obstacles.

While on this subject; I need to run a 50 amp circuit to GFCI breaker at Hot Tub. Do I need to run a full sized EGC, #8THHN or would a #10, T250.122 be sufficient?

I like option 2 better. I agree with the tripping hazard.
Also, my inspectors like seeing #8 ground. Gives them the warm and fuzzy...

Another thing...
If the Hot tub is within 8' of the house... you have to bond EVERYTHING that is metal. (And GFCI any lighting) Then you have to treat it like a pool. Inspector turned me down couple of weeks ago on that. Homeowner is now moving the hot tub and we get to re-wire it.

Maybe I misread but is it possible to run the wire in the interior then hammer drill over the doorway therefore eliminating the run across the back of the house?

Pull up a deck plank or two, run the cable, re-attach the deck planking, think different.

The basement is finished and they do not want any demo in those areas. The deck was placed on an existing patio. I was standing on the driveway when I took the photos. I can come out of the basement where the service comes in and that is why I have posted what I see as my only option(s) but as is said "think different".
