WR GFCI receptacles

My project manager told me that if I use a solid gray in use cover over top of an exterior GFCI receptacle it does not have to have the WR rating on it, apparently because the sun can’t get to it with a solid cover. I’ve looked around and can’t independently verify this. Do any of you know if this is true?

They are required to be listed weather resistant type

AFAIK the WR receptacles use the same plastic body as the non WR ones.

What is supposed to be different is the material the contact points are made of are supposed to be more corrosion resistant than the non WR receptacles.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. That’s my general conclusion as well but it’s nice to have a second opinion.
