y start delta run question

I recently set up a rotary phase converter for a friend. It used a 40hp 3 phase motor, some caps and was commercially purchased unit. The circuit was pretty simple and I decided to set on up for myself. I got a 40hp motor and set up the motor same as the other unit I installed. I did not realize that the motor I got was a y start delta run. Well it didn't work the way I wired it :-? so I don't know what to do now. Does anyone know if a motor of this type can be used as the idle motor in a phase converter situation. If so does anyone have a wire diagram. The motor has a high or low voltage and has 12 wires from the motor.

Thanks

Yes, you just use it in only in the Delta connection. In other words, permanently connect the windings as if it is in the Run configuration.

So looking at this diagram, permanently connect T6 to T1, T4 to T2 and T5 to T3, then connect your line supply to T1, 2 and 3.

If you have a 12 lead dual-voltage motor, the numbers will be different but the concept is the same.
