For a yard post light installation, is it ok to run UF down 12 inch pvc conduit where it comes from the house into the ground? we aren't supposed to use cable in conduit outdoors. If I use THWN single conductors instead, how do you install them in conduit 4 feet high inside the post, what do you fasten the conduit to, or how to terminate the conduit in the 3 inch diameter post? Thank you for your advice.

As to your question with the THWN conductor in conduit to the light post.
If the post is PVC or metal it should be considered a race way. You could terminate the conduit in a WR box against the post, 90 to the bottom of the box and nipple through the back to enter the post, or just enter the post directly with the conduit and run the THWN up the post to the light fixture.

As mentioned earlier you can use UF inside a conduit and you can use the light post as a conduit.

Your regular PVC does not have to come up all the way to the top of the post, but you can if you want.

If the post does not have any access hole near the base I bring the conduit up to about 6" below the top, otherwise the conduit stops by the base near the access hole.
