I think that goes back a long time.

2. shielded(romex) wiring not allowed in conduit

NM (romex) is allowed in conduit.

3. GFCI's required in laundry rooms

Fairly recently certainly not a requirement in the 70s.

Thanks for the reply but really need to know the year these changes went into effect.
As for #2 I thought and heard that romex was not allowed in conduit due to a heat buildup issue??
Thanks

# 1 Not sure but, as Iwire said, it's been a long time.

# 2 Romex is allowed in conduit contrary to old wives tales.

# 3 2005

1. elect sub panels in closets

It entered the code in 1981 at 240.24(D).
Overcurrent devices shall not be located in the vicinity of easily ignitible material such as in clothes closets.

The words "such as in clothes closets" is not included in 240-24(d) in the 1978 NEC. That is the oldest code book that I have in my office. Here is the exact wording of section 240-24(d) from the 1978 NEC:

"(d) Not in Vicinity of Easily Ignitible Material. Overcurrent devices shall not be located in the vicinity of easily ignitible material."

I don't have the 1981 NEC but in the 1984 NEC the words "such as in clothes closets" is there. I suspect that it was the 1981 NEC that first included clothes closets in section 240-24(d).
