Are you asking us or telling us?

...and that is why man hours is a more accurate answer to the "WWYC" issue presented.

yup, the man hours are the most accurate, and he will have to check the job conditions, to be sure everything is ready to finish, and not a lot of fix it work.

(WWC) The original EC did not finish on basement.

That would be my biggest concern. Why not? It's very hard to take over a job and do it better and cheaper than the guy that started it. The original EC had all the advantages, he's been on the job and knows the condition of the wiring so not a lot of checking things out, he already should have a permit ( he did rough it in ).

Is the basemnt part of a remodel or left off from new construction?

I agree! I somewhat inspected the exsisting work. I did not megger or ohm out the conductors. Drywall can hide a big mess.

How many times an owner had tried to tell us an EC din't finish the basement wiring, only to find out some hack did it and they never had a permit for the work, we always go to city records, before we even give an estimate.

This basement was not part of original work. It was finished later, but not fully finished!!

yep. it's like the rental on a tugger.... if you own one, then the
rental goes in your pocket, but the tugger still gets charged for.

nobody tugs for free. :D

the rental doesnt really go in your pocket, it goes to pay for the costs of owning the thing. (paying back what it cost to purchase, insurance, storage, maintenance, repairs, replacing lost components, etc)

Never think, well i own it so i dont need to charge for it. Any specalized equipment beyond ordinary tools should have a 'cost per day' or something included in the price of the job. Otherwise you are dipping into your own pocket to own and operate these things.

That's one huge line-item many beginners and hacks don't add into their bids. Tools cost money. You may already own the tool outright, having paid cash for it years ago, but eventually it will wear out/break down/get stolen/need repair.

Bigger stuff, like bucket trucks & lifts, need vehicle licenses, insurance, storage space.....

If I go out on a job and need to use a high-$ tool, like a locator or special meter, the price goes up.

These are always red-flag jobs. You don't really know if the problem is the HO or the EC until you're done with it. I wouldn't touch it w/o substantial initial troubleshooting/megger/inspecting charges. Often there are basic design issues like too many lights on a circuit.

Your right, we just had one last week, we charged for an estimate, the hack mixed 12G and 14G cables, the inspector said, I want everything opened up! and when we opened the recpts, the moran cut the ground wires too short, they had to be rerun, bath heater vent was on 15A circuit, when the manufavture plate called for 20A owner said the other electrician that looked at is way out of linem he wanted $3,500, we had the whole room built for that, I said you should of grabbed him we would quote a bit more.
