Rubber cord is not 'with ground' so if you need 3 circuit conductors you need to order 4 conductor cord.

This is different then NM, MC etc.

The motor overloads protect the 8 AWG.

I have usually seen SO type cord referred to as 3c/g for 3 conductor with ground. maybe a regional thing. I have never seen an SO cord other than a 2 wire cord that did not have a green wire in it.

As far as I can tell the motor overloads are in the truck. What protects the #8 wires if someone plugs in something else?

Is it the plan to run conductors suitable for a 50A circuit from the load center to the receptacle?

Since the transformer hasn't been supplied yet, why not get a 480-to-240 one instead of a 480-to-208v one?

probably will...or a 480 to 230 would be better...i believe that they make such an animal...

Seems like that could be accomplished by simply changing taps....but why would you want too? Any load you put on there is just going to start pulling the voltage down, so why not start at 240?
