I remember when around here and in Florida, those strippers with the diamond opening was the rage. The problem with them was most would not set the set point screw and would nick the wires. T-strippers are now the rage and for the last 4 years I have been using the ones with the curved handles. I've gotten so use to them that when I tried to use the straight handle ones they felt awkward. But even with T-strippers when you go to strip the wire they must be square with the wire or they can nick it. :D

that's funny, I remember the FL rage too. I can't think of anywhere else in my travels where they were so abundant.

have you tried kliens nm stripes I have a 14-2 and 12-2 set I love them they strip nm and only have 1 hole for the wire so I don't have to hunt for the right hole

I have a pair of the greenlee curved handle strippers but when i can`t find them i break out my kliens and still don`t nick the :cool: conductor

I'm going to bed now, with my ,uh hem, side cutters.

What I use is a utility knife with a sharp blade set to just barely stick out of the case. I usually cut into the cable sheath a 1 or 2 inches from where I want the sheath to end just in case I nick the insulation. (Almost never happens) I then use diagonal cutters to sever the sheath and to do the final inch.

But then, grandfather taught me how to do things the Old Signal Corps way.

I also prefer to minimize the weight of my tool belt. If I know that I am only going to use certain tools for a few hours I take the other tools out. I know somebody whose tool belt must weigh 40 pounds!

YUP!, but haven't stripped RX since about..... 1977. I was pretty fast with just a knife. Strip it down the center (on top of the ground), pull the conductors out and cut off the back side. I guess if you can strip the insulation off of a conductor with a pair of side cutters, you can strip the jacket off of the romex.

yes you can :D This works on 2 wire not 3 wire that`s when I use a razor knife
and I always dull my new blade on cement or just use others blades they have thrown away :D
Have gotten funny looks from new helpers with thier shiney new tool pouch loaded with all those screw drivers,nut drivers,dikes,side cutters,needle nose,pump pliers, razor knife.hammer etc.There I am with a nail apron,sidecutter,10 in 1,razor knife(with dull blade) and a 30 ft.tape :D Come lets wire that house and bring the drill :cool:
