Utility engineer sent me this video today; They were trying to land the secondaries in this gangable meter center. When he called the electrician to ask exactly what it was they were smoking, the response was, "what do you want me to do? Use some kind of bolt."

He said they also didn't provide any neutral kits in the main disconnects.

Maybe they did not have any appropriate fasteners and just used what they had to hold the lugs in place temporarily and never got around to finishing the job.

The engineer that sent that to me said that was their permanent method. They asked him what type of bolts they should then use to fasten it.

He said the lineman called him back on the return trip to say they now have pvc coated bolts/washers/nuts on it. He didn’t have a pic of it though.

I told him he might be on some hidden camera prank show.

Several years ago we found a 6-32 with nut and washer holding a buss together. 600 AMP IIRC But it had done the job successfully for 10-15 years. Maybe more.
Believe it or not, but I once asked one of the Panduit product managers what the minimum size bolt was for a compression lug was that had a half inch hole. He told me it is not speced by UL

Embarrassing….

I can understand why though because a proper nut and bolt connection could be achieved with washers and a smaller nut and bolt than 1/2 inch. Still would be lame to do that and open up more potential movement.

I can almost hear the conversation of the guys putting that together:

" you got a 1/2 bolt?"
"No."
"How about a 3/8?"
""No"
"How about 5/16?"
"No"
.........

At least he had a 6-32 so they didn't have to go down to 4-40!🤣

I agree, sounds like a prank

I see the hands turning the lugs back and forth.
I couldn't help thinking about a busy board

A busy board with plug, receptacle, _and_ keys on a chain!

I still remember trying to start the house. (Actually I don't remember _why_ I put the key into the receptacle.) There was a flash and the next thing I remember is staring at the red spot on my hand. I must have been < 2 years old, so more than 50 years ago.
