Here is a reference from the 2008 ROC for NFPA-70. I hope this helps.

5-44 Log #2249 NEC-P05 Final Action: Accept
(250.8)
____________________________________________________________
Submitter: Donald A. Ganiere, Ottawa, IL
Comment on Proposal No: 5-84
Recommendation: Continue to accept in principle.
Substantiation: The original submitted wording would have prohibited the
use of standard pressure connectors (wire nuts) for use with EGCs, and would
have required the use of ?green? wire nuts for this purpose. The panel should
continue to accept its revised wording as the revised wording makes it very
clear that any listed pressure connector can be used for the connection of
EGCs.
Panel Meeting Action: Accept
Number Eligible to Vote: 15
Ballot Results: Affirmative: 15

Ideal references both the 410 crimp connector and the B-cap "greenie" as compliant to the Listed Fed Spec W-S-610E. Any comments from inspectors is appreciated. rbj

green nuts leak!

green nuts leak!

As a former instructor I always told my students that the green nuts were for grounding (bonding?) and showed them the idea behind them (for those that don't know one of the wires can extend thru the nut and onto a device or box). I also explained that they couldn't be used on anything but ground because they "leak" LOL

Five years from now someone will post here that he won't use green wire nuts because his instructor told him they leak'.

back when I worked for a company that did residential, we had our choice of using greenies or crimps, I prefer crimps, they take up less room in boxes behind devices, and I believe they cost less... now I mainly do commercial work, I use pre-made pigtails and crimp ferrels.

At least you'll still be here, so you can tell them a "way back in the early days of this forum..." story about that exact question popping up, and maybe still find this thread in the archives. :)
