A local Village called to have me look at one of their submersible wells protected by a Franklin SubMonitor. I was asked to check the system because he had couple faults on the SubMonitor that indicated high temperatures. I did not get to see the message nor did I take the time to scroll through the history. There was no visual indication of over heated connections. To make it short, after running the pump for 30 minutes or so I used a thermal camera to scan the starter. Sure enough the left & center phase were hot compared to the right. FOP test confirmed it. Pretty impressed but I do not know how it determined the problem. This unit uses a CT type overload with no physical connection to the starter, other than the control contact. Phase currents were not overly imbalanced & did not change after corrections were made.
