Reason #1 I hate factory KOs. Especially on gutters.

Amen brother.
I knew there was'nt a lock nut on that nipple!

I've never HAD to put a gutter directly above a panel
I would've mounted it verticaly and ordered it without KO's.
But,then again I probably would've figured out a way to
not use a gutter at all.

My opinion may change in a few hours cause I'm really
hungover right now. Happy New Years!:D

OK, so you have a metal raceway between the meter and the service disconnect with 3 conductors HHN. The meter base bonds the neutral to the enclosure and at the service disconnect, you bond the neutral to the enclosure. We now have parallel paths for neutral current between the meter enclosure and the service disconnect enclosure.

Why are we (NEC) not so concerned about this parallel path?

Just the way it is I suppose.

They are mains as there is not disco on the exterior or interior other than the panels themselves. Here are some more photos of this professional installation:

I don't see why they couldn't have done without the trough and just used an individual 4/O AL SE-U to each panel from the meter base like we do around here. Unless that meter base doesn't accept 2 cables or have 2 lugs per per conductor. Pretty damn lame.

There are no covers on the panels.

Roger

I was in the local inspection office. Some body called in wanting to know why their job failed inspection. The secretary that answered the phone relayed the message. The inspector yelled from down the hall. "I refuse to inspect a job that sloppy."
