What is a good estimate for the ampacity of the average ceiling fan motor?

Check for a nameplate, check the installation specifications. In any case, less than 5-amperes and likely more around 1.5-amperes or so.

i've yet to install a residential ceiling fan that pulled over 1.5 amps.


Most average around 70w on high speed.

They sure are in my house. Yet another thing I have to do. I want seperate switches for fanspeed and light, of course the house was built as cheap as possible.:roll:

The last fan speed control I installed had a name plate rating good for 6 amps.
