Is the following graphic 100% correct?

2014%20Laundry.jpg

The receptacles on the wall opposite the equipment are still required by 210.8(A)(10) to have GFCI protection, but the dedicated circuit is now solely dedicated to equipment shown on the prints. Agree?

I'll hand type the whole thing. :D

210.8(A)(10) Laundry Areas

210.52(F) Laundry Areas. In dwelling units, at least one receptacle outlet shall be installed in areas designated for the installation of laundry equipment.

Sounds like permanently installed only (i.e. not a random cord-and-plugged portable iron) to me.

Why? Because GE appliances fail and shock people at their end of life, so they proposed an addition to 210.8 to save them the hassle of making quality products.

Result: new 210.8(A)(10) above.

I am saying the wall receptacles cannot be on the circuit called out in 210.11(C)(2).

I say they can be on the laundry circuit as long as they are in the laundry area. And to really stir everybody up, I will also say the washing machine could be on it's own 15 amp dedicated GFCI circuit. In my view 210.11(C)(2) does not say that it must supply the washing machine. I wired my laundry that way as I like having the washer on a dedicated circuit and I think it is compliant.

George, I bet we know who inspected it.:)

2-177 Log #525 NEC-P02
Final Action:
Accept in Principle
(210.52(F))
________________________________________________________________
Submitter:
Kelvin McDowell, Randolph Community College
Recommendation:
Revise text to read as follows:
210.52(F)
Laundry
Areas.
In dwelling units, at least one receptacle outlet
shall be installed for the laundry equipment.
Substantiation:
By adding the word ?equipment? there would be no
misunderstanding that this receptacle is for the laundry equipment instead of a
receptacle to be installed for no reason or purpose. It seems to be the consensus
of electricians that this receptacle and the circuit required in 210.11(C)(2) does
not have to supply anything and the laundry equipment such as washing
machines, gas dryers, and smoothing irons installed in the laundry areas can be
supplied from a general purpose circuit.
Note:
Supporting material is available for review at NFPA Headquarters.
Panel Meeting Action: Accept in Principle
Revise
the proposed language as follows:
?210.52(F)
Laundry
Areas.
In dwelling units, at least one receptacle outlet
shall be installed in areas designated for the installation of laundry equipment.?
Panel Statement:
This revision clarifies the intent of this provision and
accomplishes the objective of the submitter.
Number Eligible to Vote: 11
Ballot Results:
Affirmative: 11

Thanks for the replies!

We aren't under the 2014 yet, I'm working on something else.

The ROP led me to this question, as I believe the intent was to get the circuit to feed permanent laundry appliances only.

"...areas designated for the installation of laundry equipment" really looks like the outline of the washer, not the laundry room.

But then they went and added "smoothing iron". That is probably not the hair straightening iron but rather the good old electric flatiron which is not likely to permanently installed. These days you are even hard pressed to find built-in fold out ironing boards, (which in the college dorms I remember had a dedicated outlet either on the wall or inside the recess where the ironing board was stored, said outlet being controlled by a 15 minute spring timer.)
