Remodeling a bathroom. Installed new dedicated 20A circuit but panel (Siemens) only has room of a single narrow breaker so unable to use an AFCI breaker. 12ga NM already run from panel to bathroom (done by others before I arrived). My thought is install a dead front combo AFCI/GFCI in a box just above the panel fed by MC or EMT then feeding the NM. Sound kosher or do I need to rerun the NM as MC to the outlet and use a OBC combo AFCI/GFCI?

Under '17 NEC, the bath circuit is not required to be AFCI.

Same is true for the 2020

Thanks for the clarification. I was thrown by 210.12B as indicated in my 8th edition “code check” book stating “Req’d for all 120V 15A & 20A branch circuits supplying outlets and devices in dormitory unit bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, closets, bathrooms & similar rooms”

And not only that but what Siemens panel uses 1/2 size breakers?
I’ve never seen one
Only panel I'm aware of is GE that has narrow breakers. Siemens does now have tandem AFCI breakers but that is not a 1/2 size breaker.
Is OP an electrician? Profile says GC.

Crouse-Hinds, Challenger, & FPE, did also but 3 all are defunct.
