Is it possible to get a box behind the gyp board? Seems like there would only be about an inch space behind gyp board so I'd say no.

I’ve used wiremold boxes for that before, but a shallow UT box will also work, but it is tight on wire fill.

You would have to use a 90, but you could.may be an issue the MC being close to the Sheetrock making it subject to damage.

The MC cable will fit in the 7/8 void so that would work. The cable just needs to be 1.25" from the hat channel.

I would say no. Box would be flush with the drywall.

There are a few options but the box behind the sheetrock with 7/8 channel isn't one of them. If they don't want surface mounted boxes then they'll have to change the wall framing.

Just there recently with a pipe in the way. If you have 1-1/2", use the Raco 418 and a 1/2" single gang mud ring. 14.8 cu in plus 3.5 for the mud ring. That will get you #12 NM in and out, a device and use of the box clamps. It will be tight and use every cu in.

Isn't that box 1" deep? How will that fit in a 7/8" space?

Yup and then they'll ask you for a solution. If the boxes had to be flush with the finished wall they could have put them in the concrete.

It won't fit in the 7/8" space, but it might fit in the 1-1/2" thickness from the outer face of the wallboard back to the concrete.

I'd have some concern about the box in direct contact with concrete.

Most guys would blast out a recess in the concrete for the box. That's OK for a few but if you have a whole lot it doesn't make sense time wise.

I agree, the architect or engineer should have realized that you can't reasonably flush mount receptacles and switches in a wall furred out with hat channel or 1x2s.

I don't believe that those are flush when the drywall is installed. The covers are raised. Can they be used with MC cable?
