Even in a house I usually like the switches at 42". Don't know why I just thought 48" was too high

Based on what? Local code amendment?KCMO metro code enforced 4' in garages and basements. Always. Or unfinished spaces as well.

Yes the NEC has no height requirement for these receptacles so if a jurisdiction is requiring the receptacles to be installed at a certain minimum height in dwelling garaged then it would have to be required by a local amendment.Yes. I don't believe NEC says anything about 4'.
