Anything more directly applicable to low voltage cable in particular?Either of these sections: 334.15(B), 300.4(F).
Do you mean can EMT be used for the protection or are the cables required to be protected?Anything more directly applicable to low voltage cable in particular?
I think 300.4(b)(1) requires me to protect low voltage cable through metal studs but the only permitted methods listed are listed grommets/ bushings. I want to use emt.Do you mean can EMT be used for the protection or are the cables required to be protected?
I would think under uses permitted in 358 it should be statedThe better question would be "where does code prohibit emt as a protective sleeve"
Also it’s not stated as a acceptable method in 300.4(b)(1)The better question would be "where does code prohibit emt as a protective sleeve"
So if you ground or bond equipment in a method not listed in 250.8 that’s fine? The NEC is a permissible code meaning if doesn't say you can't you can. Not everything or method needs to be specifically called out.
If it is an acceptable method sure.So if you ground or bond equipment in a method not listed in 250.8 that’s fine?
Acceptable to who?If it is an acceptable method sure.
In your case whoever's going to tell you it's wrongAcceptable to who?
I think it should be allowed. I do it all the time. I’m just trying to find the code reference because an apprentice asked meYou're making the protective sleeve thing difficult when there's no reason. What do you think about using IMC, RMC, FMC, etc....?
Then answer with post #6I think it should be allowed. I do it all the time. I’m just trying to find the code reference because an apprentice asked me
I like that answer in certain contexts but not when there’s a rule stating the required methods. Then answer with post #6
What "required method" are you talking about?I like that answer in certain contexts but not when there’s a rule stating the required methods.
300.4(b)(1)What "required method" are you talking about?
That is for abrasion protection from the sharp edge of the stud it is not for protection for a screw or nail going through the cable. Low voltage cable is not nonmetallic-sheathed cable. NM cable is in Article 334.300.4(b)(1)
“…shall be protected by listed bushing or listed grommets….”
