Those live front switch boards are awesome. I hope guys will take pictures of every one that they retire. They'll soon be non-existant.
 
I thought some might like to see this.
This service has two sets of CTs one single phase 240 the other three phase 240. It's a 400amp.
The new one will be 1600amp 480volt.
 
Tesla would have been proud to see 'his AC' doing great works for that time. Thanks for the great pix!
 
Now that I'm looking at my own pictures, I think it only has one set of CTs with no CT for the High Leg.
I'll double check tomorrow. I hav'nt started to tear it out yet, and I took these pictures a couple of months ago. That coupled with a feeble memory is all the excuse there is.
 
That metal shopping cart sitting in front of all that live copper is scary. Just noticed that. That's a pic that Joe Tedesco would be interested in having.
 
This is in The Broadway Armoury building.
The Building now belongs to the Chicago Park district and is used for park district programs. There is a gymnasium in this building that is 120 feet by 280 feet.

There can be four basketball games or six volley ball games going on at one time.

I noticed the same thing and was wondering who the heck would even THINK of puting that there.
 
Russ thank you for the pictures. That type of controller is not feasible today wit h labor and material costs.
And it can be repaired!

I believe it is possible to meter 3-phase with only 2 CT's, but I don't recall how or where I remember it from. It seems that the only thing that couldn't be measured would be the non-CT'd-phase-to-neutral current, which wouldn't exist on a high-leg Delta anyway.
 
I'd give anything to have that! Tell me where to send the money and I?ll even come help you take it down!!!

I volunteer at the Edison home and museum in Fort Myers Florida. Of the 1,000 or so pieces in the home and museum, my favorite item is the vintage electrical service form the 1920's in the laboratory. Edison himself installed it....
