2 fans one fan control

I wired two Hunter fans off of one fan control a year ago. Within two weeks both fans have seized up. Coincidence or is there a problem
 
Was there a fan control? When using a fan control (wall switch). I normally use a 5 amp switch when using 2 fans. 1.5 and 3 amp switches normally don't work well with more than one fan.
 
I am surprised that the fans seized up. I would have expected the control to burn up as most of them are only rated for one fan.
