So I do regular 200 amp SEU service upgrades at about $2100 How much should I tack on for a mast service. And we all know Im not looking for T&M

I'd add about $500 to the job for a rigid mast through the roof.

2 years ago I priced on off the top of my head for someone I was doing other work for and didn't realize that the new one needed a mast. That bit me in the arse. First and only time that's happened.

do the math...you probably have near a $500 difference in material alone between an AL SEU riser and a ridgid with copper mast...not to mention labor...

$500 is the correct answer. $800 if 2 story.

The last 3 mast jobs we did, were $2700 to 3k and we just broke even on those jobs.

We have a real problem, we pay all our taxes, are properly insured, pay employees a living wage, and benifits.

its the living wage and benefits that are killing you.

The last couple of posts may have been poking fun at pricing, but it is the difference of being successful enough to provide your business, your workers, yourself and your family with a much better life.

Learning that pricing work higher, being the highest price EC is a good thing, not a bad thing. Less work, higher % of profit = less work time and more time for creativity in how to market and process more higher% jobs. Sounds good to me.

A lot depends on the area (even the county) you're in. In Bergen County the going rate for a masted service is around $2400 to $2600. Move over one county to Passaic and the going rate drops to around $2000 to $2200. If you're further west or south (like in the shore areas and not major cities like Newark) the rates are a lot less. Can't figure it out though - the prices of the materials are about the same + or - a few bucks. Plumbers seem to keep their prices high no matter where you are. Maybe we should join their contractors' association.

Rewire, if you're only getting $850 for a 200 amp masted service you're selling yourself short. You should't just figure in your hourly wage. You have to mark up your material and figure in $$ for your company overhead, in general. With gas prices, insurance and general operating prices going up you won't be charging $65/hr for too much longer. The hourly labor rates in my area range anywhere between $95 - $135 hr. depending on the type of work you do.
