That sounds like the line a certain game company was giving out when they missed their date by YEARS!!! When their product finally did come out, while fun, it was still not complete.

Let's hope the NFPA is a little more accountable.

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

Good morning Mr. Turner sir,
As stated in my above post, my 2005 electronic Handbook CD has not arrived yet.But I do have the 2005 Handbook hard Text.
210.70(a)
Bottom of page,Authors summery in blue box..
Quote:
A receptacle is not permitted to be switched as a lighting outlet on a small-appliance branch circuit.A receptacle can be switched as a lighting outlet(e.g. in the dining room) supplied by a branch circuit other than a small-appliance branch circuit.See Exhibit 210.25,which shows a dining room switched receptacle on a 15-ampere general-branch circuit.

-->dillon

That would be page #95

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

kturner,

2005 NEC 210.70(A) is unchanged from 2002. There are changes in (B).

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

Also,

The NECHandbook Exhibit 210.25 is unchanged and looks like this:

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

kturner
The wording at 210.52 (B) (1) exception and 210.70 (A) (1) exception has not changed since 1990. In 210.52 the exception to allow a receptacle to be added for the lighting outlet was moved from exception 3 to exception 1 in the ?96 cycle.

It has been the intent of the code that a lighting outlet could be replaced with a switched receptacle in any room except kitchens and bathroom as outlined in 210.70 (A) (1) for over five code cycles.

This exception as outlined in 210.70 (A) (1) is also allowed in addition to those required by 210.52 (B) (1) for the small appliances receptacles as outlined in 210.52 (A) (1) exception.

It has never been the intent of the code to allow a switched small appliance receptacle in lieu of the required lighting outlet. This would violate 210.52 (B) (2)
;)

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

My version of the electronic NEC was copy restricted, Mike Holt found out you could run a CD rom emulator program, he used Paragon, and create a virtual CD on your hard drive.

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

I recieved my Handbook on CD yesterday. I'm kind of surprised(and I'm definately not happy) that it needs to be activated by internet or phone. They allow you to install it on 2 computers. that's it. I feel that I should be able to install it on as many comps as I like. I have 3 computers @ home, one @ work, and a laptop. I realize they do this to deter piracy, but there has to be a better way.

The CD will not work until it's activated. If you recieve it on a friday nite, and you do not have internet access, You must wait until monday morning to activate it by phone. I'm looking for a way to hack around the product activation. These guys are worse than Microsoft ;)

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

Stevie,
Recieved mine via UPS carrier at 4:45 PM on Monday evening.Tried to activate mine by internet that same evening, with no success.

Called the NFPA technical support via phone-line following morning. Was on hold for awhile, but did get it activated.Techincal Support informed me that internet access activation, was hindered due to the personal firewall installed on my computer.

Dispite the fact of the activation hassle..I think they did a wonderful job on software, and happy with photos, graphic illustrations.Beats flipping through my 2005 Handbook Textbook, by a longshot..

Hopeing I'll never have need for this CD installation on more than two computers.. But it does in the justifing, in my purchasing of the 2005 Text also..Glad in the fact,in purchasing the "package deal" at earlier date,in getting the price reduction in the two..

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

Bob: I hated the user interface of the 2005, since I was used to the 2002 version. What I have done now is make a shortcut to the FolioViews program in my 2002 folder and put it on the desktop. When double-clicked, it asks what to open, and I select the 2005 file.

The reason I bring this up in response to your question is that I found the 2002 search capabilties far superior to the 2005.

Re: 2005 NEC Handbook

rbalex,
Just done a search of "swimming pool lighting"...CD took me to commentary below article 680.5.

Done another search of "Equipotential Plane"..
CD took me to article 547.2

Edited: Ment to say Handbook Program..Not a need in having the CD in dock of computer, once installed..
